P Porcelain-Fused to Metal (PFM) Crowns
The porcelain-metal crown takes advantage of the best of both materials. The metal provides a strong base and tooth-colored porcelain offers a pleasing esthetic natural look. A porcelain-metal crown often requires more of the tooth removed for the crown to fit properly. It can also look fairly natural if the edge of the crown is below the gum line. Sometimes, however, a small silver line on the bottom of the metal base is exposed causing an unsightly crown line.
